Regional Workshop for NCD Surveillance and Monitoring - Introduction
제목 없음

Background

NCD prevention and control is a regional and global priority. Regional Committee Resolution WPR/RC62.R2 called for development of a regional action plan for NCD prevention and control for 2014-2018, that is integrated into the global monitoring framework and is consistent with voluntary global targets and indicators to be developed by WHO by the end of 2012.

National capacity for NCD surveillance and monitoring is limited in most of the low and middle income countries of the region. Mortality registration is weak with inadequate registration of deaths and incomplete certification. Disease registries are often not available. Hospital based statistics are not linked and not very useful for population estimates. Risk factor surveys are carried out occasionally and do not give trends over time. Institutional capacity is also limited for undertaking surveillance and monitoring.

Recognizing this priority, it is proposed to organize a regional workshop for NCD surveillance and monitoring in collaboration with the Republic of Korea. Korea Centres for Disease Control and the National Cancer Centre of Korea with co-organize the meeting.
